Otres Beach

Otres is one of the quieter beaches of Sihanoukville, known for its long stretch of sand, the beach road with cafés and restaurants, and views towards the islands. Locally it is split into Otres 1, closer to town, and Otres 2 further south.

The developer’s neighbouring project, Time Square 10, is also located at Otres Beach. The exact plot and its coordinates for Time Square 15 have not been published yet.

Sangkat Bei

Sihanoukville is divided into urban communes called sangkats. The profile of Time Square Ocean Waves (Time Square 15) on realestate.com.kh gives its address as Sangkat Bei and describes it as a beachfront tower. Once the developer publishes the exact plot, we will add a map.

Getting there

  • Sihanouk International Airport (also known as Sihanoukville International Airport): roughly half an hour by car.
  • Phnom Penh: about 2.5 hours via the Phnom Penh–Sihanoukville expressway.
  • Islands: ferries to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem leave from the Sihanoukville piers, a short drive from Otres.

Travel times are approximate and depend on traffic. Before the expressway opened, the drive from the capital took much longer, so it has made Sihanoukville far easier to reach.

Locally, people get around by tuk-tuk, ride-hailing apps, scooter or car. Public transport inside the city is limited.

Daily life

Otres is the relaxed side of Sihanoukville: beach bars, guesthouses, small restaurants and a slower pace. The city centre has markets, supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and clinics. For specialist medical care many residents travel to Phnom Penh, so good health insurance is worth having.

The climate is tropical and warm all year. The rainy season runs roughly from May to October, usually with heavy showers rather than all-day rain. The dry season brings a calmer sea and the most visitors.

You can pay in US dollars almost everywhere, with the Cambodian riel used for small change. English is widely understood in places that serve visitors.

Cost of living in Sihanoukville

Living costs depend heavily on your habits, so we do not quote monthly budgets. As a rule of thumb:

  • local markets, street food and Khmer restaurants are inexpensive;
  • imported groceries, wine and Western-style restaurants cost noticeably more;
  • electricity becomes a real budget item if you run air conditioning all day;
  • a scooter or tuk-tuk keeps local transport cheap.

If you plan a longer stay, spend a few weeks there first and track your own spending. It is the most reliable estimate you will get.

Is Sihanoukville safe?

It is a fair question, and the honest answer has two parts.

The reputation. In the late 2010s Sihanoukville went through a fast, casino-driven construction boom. After the ban on online gambling announced in 2019, much of that money left and many towers were left unfinished. In the years since, there have also been widely reported police operations against online scam centres in Cambodia, including in Sihanoukville. That history is why “is Sihanoukville dangerous” is such a common search.

Today. The city is calmer than in the boom years. Roads and the seafront have been upgraded, and the beaches, Otres included, draw tourists and expats again. For ordinary visitors the typical risks are the usual ones in South-East Asia: bag snatching, petty theft and traffic, especially on a scooter.

Sensible precautions go a long way. Keep your phone and bag away from the roadside, wear a helmet and use registered transport at night. Check your government’s travel advice before you go, and visit in person before you buy.

The beaches

Otres is not the only beach in Sihanoukville. Ochheuteal and Serendipity are close to the centre and livelier. Independence Beach and Sokha Beach lie further west along the coast. Ream National Park, with mangroves and quieter beaches, is a short drive east of Otres.

From the piers you can reach Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, the islands that are many visitors’ main reason to come to the coast.
